South Stream determines price of Russian gas supplies to Bulgaria
The discount of 11.1% from the price of the Russian gas supplies to Bulgaria is not yet a fact. This will become one after all shareholders of ‘South Stream-Bulgaria’ resolve the current issues and the country signs the final investment decision.
This statement was made by the Bulgarian Minister of Economy and Energy, Delyan Dobrev, who participated in the forum ‘Balkan policies for green growth’ in Sofia.
The minister also said, cited by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) that the current issues among the shareholders needed to be resolved before the government makes the final investment decision on November 15, 2012.
In addition, Dobrev clarified that the agreed discount of 11.1% amounted to around $120 million. He added: ‘We work very constructively and there exist no topics we are unable to agree upon’.
New Europe reminds that on June 5, the Russian newspaper Коммерсантъinformed that Bulgaria might abandon the South Stream pipeline project. The Russian media cited the Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Delyan Dobrev, who said that Sofia could not sign the agreement for the construction of South Stream until 15 November. The main reason behind this statement, according to Коммерсантъ, was that Sofia was not satisfied with the proposed by Russia pumping rate and the rate of return on the project.
Nevertheless, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy, Eugenia Haritonova, stated later the same day day that ‘Bulgaria will actively participate in the "South Stream" project and , in particular, in the construction of the South Corridor’.
