French MP and Vice President of the Rarty of European Socialists, Jean-Christophe Cambadelis said European Commission head, Jose Barroso should resign after calling the French 'reactionary' on trade talks. The remarks were made after Paris won concessions on thew EU - US trade talks, having gained an excemption for culture, which the state subsidises and supports through rationing film and television material made outside France.
Barroso had earlier told the International Herald Tribune, that the French position "is part of this anti-globalisation agenda that I consider completely reactionary." He added, "they are culturally extremely reactionary."
Cambadelis, an MP from President Hollande's party wrote on his website that the remarks were "absolutely lamentable."
The French president, arriving for the G8 in Northern Ireland said he didn't believe that the commission head "could hold notions about France which are formulated in this way, nor about the artists who have spoken out."
